f/64 · Palley Creative LLC · Effective October 12, 2026 · feedback at f64app.com
The short version
f/64 is a camera app for iOS. Your photographs are always yours, and they stay on your phone unless you share them. The app keeps a technical log and crash reports on your phone, so that problems can be fixed when bugs arise in testing or from user feedback. Those records stay on your device unless you choose to send them to us. We do not sell your data, show ads, or use any analytics or advertising service, and nothing is shared with anyone outside Palley Creative LLC.
Your photographs
Photographs you take are saved to your own photo library in the app and in Photos. We never receive them, and we have no access to them, unless you deliberately send one to us.
Location. Geotagging is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, the coordinates are written into the photograph's own metadata, exactly as any camera app does. Those coordinates stay in your file and travel with it if you share it. They are never written into the technical records described below. Whether to turn geotagging on is at the discretion of the user.
If you allow location, the app also uses it on your phone to work out sun, moon and Milky Way times and to draw the sky overlay, whether geotagging is on or off. That location is not stored and is never sent anywhere.
If geotagging is on and a long capture is interrupted before it finishes, its location is kept with the capture's unfinished frames in a temporary folder on your phone until the capture is finished or discarded.
Technical records the app keeps on your device
- A capture log. One row per photograph, holding the settings and the measurements: exposure, ISO, aperture, lens, how many frames were captured and used, memory and timing figures, thermal state, and error messages. Edits you make in the app's editor (slider values and crops) are recorded there too. It is a technical record of how the camera performed. It contains no coordinates.
- Crash, hang and memory reports are provided by Apple's MetricKit. These contain memory addresses, the names of code modules, your device model and iOS version, and the country format of your region — but no images, no coordinates, and nothing you typed. In one rare crash category they also contain the app's own installation path, which includes a random identifier unique to your install of the app.
- A record of unexpected errors, kept as short text files.
- A random installation identifier and a per-launch session identifier, so that records from one phone can be told apart from another's. These are generated on your device, are not linked to you, and are not advertising identifiers. The app does not use the advertising identifier, the vendor identifier, your device name, or any serial number.
During the beta, these records are always kept. There is no switch to stop the app recording them, as the beta relies on this log data to fix bugs, improve UI, and diagnose crashes or image processing issues. You can see the log in the Files app (On My iPhone → f/64), and you can erase it at any time with Clear log in Settings.
What leaves your device, and when
Nothing, unless you send it. The app itself makes no network connections of any kind.
If you export diagnostics from Settings, the app makes one file holding the records above and hands it to the iOS share sheet. You choose when, where it goes, and you can look at what is in the file first. Send diagnostics does the same thing but opens an email to us with the file attached; nothing goes until you press send.
If you send feedback through the app, it opens an email to us. That report includes what you typed, the recent capture-log rows, your installation and session identifiers, the app build, your device model, one crash report if there is one, and any photograph you deliberately attach. A photograph's location is removed before it is attached unless you choose to keep it. Please do not type anything into a feedback report that you would not want us to read.
When you email us, we receive your email address and the name on it. We use them only to reply to you about the beta.
Apple's own crash reporting, which is separate
TestFlight gives us the name and email address of each tester we invite. It also asks, when you first install, whether to share crash and usage data with the developer. That is Apple's channel, not ours, and it is governed by Apple's privacy policy. It is also controlled by iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers. Whatever you choose there has no effect on the records the app keeps locally, and whatever the app does has no effect on Apple's.
How we keep what you send
Reports reach us by email and are kept in that mailbox and on an encrypted computer under our control. Only Palley Creative LLC reads them. They are handled in the United States.
How long we keep anything, and how to have it deleted
Records on your phone are yours and go when you delete the app.
Anything you have sent us is kept only as long as it is useful for fixing problems, and in any case no longer than the end of the beta program plus twelve months.
You can ask us to delete anything you have sent us. Write to feedback at f64app.com and we will delete everything of yours within 30 days. Because the beta depends on these reports, asking us to delete your data also ends your participation in the beta program.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera — required; the app cannot work without it.
- Photo library — to save your photographs, to show the photographs f/64 took, and to share or delete the originals you choose. If you decline, captures are written into the app's own storage instead and the app tells you where.
- Location — to write coordinates into your photographs if you turn geotagging on, and to work out the sky times and overlay on your phone.
The news list
If you ask to join the f/64 news list, we receive your email address and keep it on a list that only Palley Creative LLC can read. We use it only to send f/64 updates. It is not sold or shared. Write to feedback at f64app.com at any time and we will remove you.
Children
f/64 is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will say so in the app before the change takes effect, and the app will ask you to accept the new terms.
